Oreo Ad – 1919
No one is really sure where the Oreo name comes from. But here are several theories that now owner, Kraft Foods, has:
From “or,” the French word for gold, which was the main color on early packaging.
It's a combination of taking the "re" from "cream" and placing it between the two "o"s in "chocolate"
Initially the cookies were shaped like a baseball mound, so some think it is from the Greek word oreo, meaning hill or mountain.
Or, it’s just a silly and easy-to-pronounce name.
