Microscopic evaluation of the bone samples showed that eight out of nine vertebral columns had epiphysiolysis (fracture of the growth line cartilage) ventrally in the L1 vertebrae (Fig. 1D and Table 1). Homogeneous hemorrhage within the lesion of the physis plate was present in five of the vertebral columns (Table 1). These were the vertebral columns from the five cases with tenderloin hemorrhage. Growth line cartilage originating from the fractured physis line was often observed in the hemorrhage within and around the bone lesion, similar to the growth line cartilage found in the muscle hemorrhages in the corresponding tenderloins (Fig. 1D).
