To summarize our arguments to this point, we have suggested that self leadership is a normative concept that may operate within several theoretical contexts including self regulation theory, social cognitive theory, intrinsic motivation theory and self control theory. We have further suggested that the application of self-leadership strategies may result in a number of predictable outcomes/performance mechanisms, independence including commitment, independence, creativity, innovation. trust, team potency, positive affect, job satisfaction, psychological empowerment and self-efficacy. We believe that these outcome variables in turn, may lead to higher levels of individual, team and organizational performance. Figure 1 provides a visual overview of these suggested relationships.
