Breastfeeding is referenced in the Islamic religion with the Holy Qur’an
and the Hadith recommending that the mother breastfeeds for 2 years,
if possible, and provides guidance on its practice. This paper aims
to introduce midwives to the infant feeding practices with a specific
focus on breastfeeding by Muslim women. It is anticipated that this
will stimulate midwives to further engage in discussions with Muslim
women and their families around infant feeding to facilitate respectful
and individualised care.
