When IMG produces a made-for-television golf, tennis, or skating event, filled with its own stable of athletes ( who may or may not receive guaranteed appearance fees), can this be legitimately promoted as a "competition"? Most of the public recognizes that professional wrestling is phony. In the world of conglomerate sports, wrestling may not be alone. NBC Sam millions into the XFL, it's joint venture with the Wou Wrestling Frederation. But all the media genius and promotional expertise could not be positioned as a major league operation. And minor league sports simply don't sell in prime time.
