The EAB% of biocomposite films was increased, ranging from33.9% (control) to 41.2% for films containing 1.2% (w/v) oil (p > 0.05).This was in accordance with the results reported by other authors when incorporating oregano essential oil to edible film matrix(Benavides et al., 2012; Pelissari et al., 2009). This general trend could be partially described by the replacement of polymers with the lipids in the film matrix. Inclusion of lipids or oils in protein-based or polysaccharide-based films can interfere with polymerchain-to-chain interactions and produce flexible domains within the film (Tongnuanchan et al., 2012). The interactions between polar polymer molecules are much more powerful than those between polar polymer and non-polar lipid molecules (Yang andPaulson, 2000). In general, the incorporation of oregano essentialoil resulted in a film matrix that was less rigid and promoted themotion of the polymer chains and enhanced the film stretchability.
