In addition, co-sleeping is common in the Singapore
population across all the preschool ages. The prevalence
of co-sleeping among Singaporean children is comparable
to values from Japan and China, both Asian and culturally
similar countries. However, this study’s values are
markedly higher than those from studies in the United
States. These differences are likely attributable to
differences in cultural and social norms between the
Western and Asian societies. The high prevalence of sleep
resistance problems in the sampled population could also
have contributed to the high prevalence rates of co-sleeping
obtained.
