Validation and Implementation
For validation, six-month data of a palm oil extraction unit is collected. The capacity of
the unit is 12.5 L/h operating 8 h a day. Figure 2 shows the schematic arrangement of
the oil extraction unit. In palm oil extraction unit, quality-tested palm seeds are cleaned
and fed as input. Palm seeds are then decorticated, i.e., their hard shells are removed.
Decorticated seeds are then reduced to a predefined size and rolled in a rolling unit to
increase their surface area to facilitate oil extraction. Oil seeds are now conditioned in
order to facilitate large flow or burst of oil. Now the oil is extracted from the conditioned
seeds. As the oil extracted contains impurities, oil clarification is done and the final
product is the clarified oil.
