Vice President, Developer and Community Marketing
An executive member of the business unit leadership team, reporting into the StrongLoop CEO/General Manager, your role drives awareness, growth, preference, and pipeline, bottoms-up in enterprises ranging in size from Fortune 100 to startups adopting Node.js. This includes leading and/or owning all community marketing, technical evangelism, promotion, social media, web, and other outbound facing activities and properties and working closely across all core functional areas including sales, product development, services, training, and support. As a world class marketing professional, you will lead a team of technology marketers and technical evangelists and coordinate closely with other marketing groups at IBM focused on tops-down enterprise marketing. This role and resources marshaled will drive hyper-growth of StrongLoop technology adoption and business opportunity.
Responsibilities:
Drive developer mindshare and preference: Own the developer and open source marketing strategy and initiatives to support online / self-serve as well as sales-driven growth, including lead generation, marketing automation, measurement & website technology, and market data reporting and analytics.
Lead our developer outreach team: Lead a team of technology evangelists and technical volunteers inside the company and in the community around the world to drive awareness and preference by Node.js developers.
Own our web properties: Drive StrongLoop’s presence on our own web properties (strongloop.com) and open source projects (e.g. loopback.io) to optimize traffic, developer satisfaction, and lead generation. Drive the creation of world class content such as technical blogs, white papers, product descriptions, case studies, customer success stories, and other marketing materials.
Run a tight ship based on ROI: Own department-wide budget and manage vendors in partnership with finance. Own the analytics, dashboards, and ad-hoc marketing reporting to the entire business team and key stakeholders. Analyze budget and campaign effectiveness and make improvement recommendations.
Take our team capabilities to the next level: Provide marketing expertise, leadership, plans, processes, programs, and execution to accelerate the group’s impact in our target audiences and manage marketing training and development resources, including employee engagement, development programs, product training, coaching plans, and immersive learning for the organization.
Ensure we’re closely aligned with Sales and Corporate marketing: Partner with the Sales Leadership to ensure integrity in the sales funnel and alignment of metrics, activities and priorities and with corporate marketing to ensure highest leverage of activities across organizations.
Promote new Product Deliveries: Drive product and technology launches to target audiences including media (AR, PR).
Qualifications:
An understanding of what it takes to “market” to developers to drive adoption and preference for StrongLoop products and services.
10+ years in a Marketing function with at least 3 years experience in open source and developer focused roles. Technical undergraduate or hands-on experience a big plus.
Deep understanding of community, B2B, and Enterprise Marketing channels, best practices, tools, capabilities and analytics (including demand generation, Web, SEO/SEM, social media, and developer oriented events such as meetups).
Strong marketing experience in managing remote and cross-functional marketing teams.
Demonstrated track record of hiring and onboarding A-players.
Experience managing marketing budgets, global programs, and outside vendors.
Knowledge and experience supporting a wide range of traditional, guerilla, and modern marketing tactics.
Experience using and tracking leads in CRM, experience with marketing automation systems, product feedback systems, and nurture campaigns.
Strong project/product management skills to ensure efficient technology and production decisions are made.
A history of working within fast-paced environments with changing priorities/requirements and intelligent stakeholders.
Outstanding interpersonal and cross-functional teamwork skills.
