It can be seen from Table 1 and Fig. 1 that the per capita
generation rate is high in some states (Gujrat, Delhi and
Tamil Nadu) and cities (Madras, Kanpur, Lucknow and
Ahmedabad). This may be due to the high living standards,
the rapid economic growth and the high level of urbanization
in these states and cities. However, the per capita generation
rate is observed to be low in other states
(Meghalaya, Assam, Manipur and Tripura) and cities
(Nagpur, Pune and Indore).
