Patients with intermittent claudication that limited
daily work or leisure-time activities were evaluated
for the study. In all cases, claudication was due to
PAD, defined as an ankle-to-arm systolic blood pressure
ratio less than 0.95 at rest or less than 0.85 after
exercise.25,26 The study was approved by the University
of Colorado School of Medicine Human Subjects
Committee, and informed consent was obtained from
all enrolled subjects.
