1.6.1 Project Grande and design safety standards
1.6.1.1 Grades of project and structures
Houay Por HPP is located in Saravan Province and it is a run-of-river headrace-type HPP. Its development task is power generation. The main structures include concrete gate dam, trapezoidal open channel, concrete core- earth-rock dam and open forebay, penstock and ground powerhouse works, tailrace channel, etc. The FSL of the gate dam will be El. 322.5m, and the corresponding storage capacity will be 76,000m3. The FSL of the saddle dam will be El. 320.00m and the corresponding storage capacity will be 135,000m3. The designed head will be 61.0m the working discharge for power generation of will be 29.0m3/s and the total installed capacity will be 15MW. This project is a Grade IV small (1) one. The main structures of the project (the retaining/flood release /headrace/power generation structures ) will be Grade $ while the secondary structures will be Grade 5, and the temporary structures will be Grade 5.
