The American Heart Association recommends statin therapy for the following groups of patients3:
People without CVD who are 40–75 years old and have ≥7.5% risk of having a heart attack or stroke within 10 years.
People with a history of CV event (e.g., heart attack, stroke, etc).
People ≥21 years old with high levels of bad cholesterol (≥4.9 mmol/L).
People with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes who are 40–75 years old.
