To accomplish the primary goal of this study, which is to define a set of facies with consistent
sedimentological criteria, subsequently link these texturally and compositionally defined facies to
depositional environments, and assess their paleogeographic distribution, a series of techniques were
utilized. For macroscopic observations of the rocks, slabbing, grinding, and observation with hand lens
and binocular microscope were used to define facies. Thin section observations with a petrographic
microscope were used to refine and verify initial observations, and to add compositional and textural
detail.
