2.5. Determination of crop water and irrigation requirement
The FAO Penman-Monteith method (Allen et al., 1998) was used
to calculate the reference evapotranspiration ETo in the CROPWAT
8.0 Program. Crop water requirements or crop evapotranspiration
(ETc) over the two growing seasons were determined from
ETo according to the following equation using crop coefficient
Kc:
ETc =
KcETo
where ETc is the crop water requirement, Kc is the crop
coefficient and ETo is the reference evapotranspiration. Crop
evapotranspiration was calculated by multiplying the reference
evapotranspiration values with the onion crop coefficients given by
Allen et al. (1998) as 1.05 for the late season stage. Since there was
no rainfall during the experimental period, net irrigation require
