The unreasonableness of deadlines is a question of judgment. While management needs to impose deadlines, they must nevertheless allow the staff sufficient time to perform their duties properly. Unintentional omissions from financial statements or misapplication of accounting principles may go undetected because of pressures to get the books closed too quickly. In addition, there may be a risk of fraud when management imposes unreasonable deadlines on internal audit personnel; it may their attempt to prevent internal audit from detecting fraud or other financial reporting issues.
