Dear Mr. Kearney,
To register your marriage in Thailand, firstly, you need to make your own affidavit. Please find attached for an example.
After you finish your affidavit, please email it back to us (along with a copy of all documents required) so that we can check for you whether required information is fully provided.
We will make an appointment with you when we receipt a proper affidavit. Therefore, could you please also indicate when you will be able to attend our office for the swearing of your Affidavit.
By the time you come to swear your affidavit, please bring along these following documents:
- your original long form birth certificate + photocopy
- your original passport + photocopy
- your fiancé’s original passport + photocopy
- an original updated 6 months bank statement/ Employer’s letter stating current salary+ photocopy
- original divorce decree + photocopy ( in case you have been divorced before)
- fee of 2700 Baht
In Thailand the Thai authorities do not accept Statutory declaration forms, what they will accept is the affidavit to confirm that you have freedom to get married which has to be issued from the consulate in Thailand. Any religious or traditional marriage doesn’t count as a legally marriage. Civil marriage will be recognized only when you obtain the marriage certificate from Thai registration office.
Please note that it only take 1 hour to process the paper work at the consulate, after that you will need to let your affidavit translated into Thai (Can be done at any private translation office, the consulate does not provide translation service), then you must contact Thai ministry of Foreign Affairs for documents legalisation, finally you can go to any registration office in Thailand to obtain the marriage certificate which will be accepted by law in Ireland and worldwide.
Should you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Note: we can accept a scan copy of your bank statement for visa application.
Best Regards,
Pichamon
