Unless there is a major contraindication for the use of the NSAIDs, they are generally
accepted for the management of mild to moderate postoperative pain and as adjuncts for
use with other analgesics in moderate to severe postoperative pain (table 1). The
concomitant inhibition of physiological COX-1 leads to renal toxicity, platelet dysfunction,
and gastrointestinal toxicity.
