How Much Do Enlisted Army Soldiers Make?Army Basic Pay for Enlisted RanksEnlisted soldiers in the Army have ranks from E-1 to E-9. In 2014, the initial monthly pay for the lowest rank, E-1, is $1,531.50 per month, although E-1s with less than four months of experience earn $1,416.30. Pay increases with each rank and with years of experience. The highest enlisted rank, E-9, earns $4,836.90 per month with over 10 years' experience, rising to $7,509.60 with more than 40 years' experience.Army Special PaySoldiers may earn special pay each month on top of basic pay. This typically applies to jobs that come with extra risks or responsibilities, such as special, hardship, diving and sea duties. Some soldiers earn more if they have proficiency in a foreign language. According to the U.S. Army website, special duty pays from $75 to $450 and hardship pay comes to $50, $100 or $150. Enlisted divers can earn up to $340 extra, and sea pay ranges from $70 to $620. Foreign language proficiency can add up to $1,000 to monthly basic pay.
