To say that the philosophy of science has potentials of contributing to the
development of a special field like LIS is not to say that the needed kind of knowledge
is easily identified and applied. Dominant positions in the philosophy of science may
turn out to be less fruitful, and therefore it may be a time-consuming investment to
identify, understand and apply the views that have those potentials. In order to make
valuable contributions, we need people who have competencies in both the philosophy
of science or a particular metatheory and LIS. Unfortunately these kinds of double
qualifications are still rare in our field. This special issue is an attempt to make those
people and their arguments more visible in order to strengthen the cooperative work
towards a better theoretical foundation of LIS. An attempt has been made either to
invite those people as authors or referees or to cite them in the references in order to
strengthen our future cooperation. It is the aspiration of the editor that this collective
work may stimulate the further development of works that illuminate the connection
between the philosophy of science and LIS (and hopefully manifest itself in, among
other things, a more comprehensive collected work on this topic).

Untuk mengatakan bahwa filsafat ilmu memiliki potensi memberikan kontribusi bagi
pengembangan bidang khusus seperti LIS bukan untuk mengatakan bahwa dibutuhkan jenis pengetahuan
yang mudah diidentifikasi dan diterapkan. Posisi dominan dalam filsafat ilmu mungkin
berubah menjadi kurang berbuah, dan karena itu mungkin menjadi investasi memakan waktu untuk
mengidentifikasi, memahami dan menerapkan pandangan yang memiliki potensi tersebut. Dalam rangka untuk membuat
kontribusi yang berharga, kita perlu orang-orang yang memiliki kompetensi di kedua filsafat
ilmu atau metateori tertentu dan LIS. Sayangnya jenis-jenis ganda
kualifikasi masih langka di bidang kita. Edisi khusus ini merupakan upaya untuk membuat orang-
orang dan argumen mereka lebih terlihat untuk memperkuat kerja koperasi
menuju landasan teoritis yang lebih baik dari LIS. Sebuah usaha telah dilakukan baik untuk
mengundang orang-orang sebagai penulis atau wasit atau mengutip mereka dalam referensi untuk
memperkuat kerjasama masa depan kita. Ini adalah aspirasi editor yang kolektif ini
pekerjaan dapat merangsang perkembangan lebih lanjut dari karya yang menerangi hubungan
antara filsafat ilmu dan LIS (dan mudah-mudahan memanifestasikan dirinya dalam, antara
lain, sebuah dikumpulkan kerja yang lebih komprehensif tentang topik ini).
