A slight variation on the concept of subculture involves the combination of multiple countries or regions to
define a particular shared belief or value. For example: “Western culture (the cultural characteristics of
societies in or derived from Europe) or the culture of poverty (the presumed cultural characteristics of poor
people the world over)” (Ember and Ember, 2011). These larger, commonly accepted beliefs can also have
an impact that should be considered when working with particular situations or groups.
