1 INTRODUCTION
The test bench can be used for the study of main parameters of power components and with the
operation of main circuits based on these components. During the hands-on the output signals of
functional units aredisplayed on the computer screnn.
The Hands-on Course on Power Electronics has been developed with the virtual instruments technology
of National Instruments and covers all major topicsof power electronics theory.
The system has been developed in NI LabView graphical programming environment and is based on the
NI ELVIS II educational platform, working in conjunction with a specially developed board with
preassembled electric circuits. During the hands-on the electronic circuits under study are displayed on
the lab Front Panel.The obtained experimental results can be saved in MS EXCEL format.
Course software has a simple and intuitive user interface developed in LabVIEW graphical programming
language. Course hardware is based on the NI ELVIS II platform which is used in conjunction with a
dedicated boardfordata acquisition and testing of electric circuits.
The student may use the prototyping board for the hands-on experiments with the electric circuits, as
described in the operations manual. Circuit schematics and course instructions for each particular lab
are presented on respective front panels and in the manual. Corresponding sections from the manual
are availableon respective help screens of the software, so that the students may refresh their memory
on the appropriate topic without interrupting the practical work on the lab. Step-by-step comments,
available on each screen, describe all consecutive operations that the student must perform during the
lab, along with the results that must be obtained. Double clicking the mouse on the comments field
opensup a window with moredetailed advanced comments.The results of all experiments canbe saved
in MS EXCELformatfor later review and grading.
