Three field experiments were conducted at the University of
Hawaii’s experimentation station, Waimanalo Research Station at
Waimanalo. One experiment was conducted at the Pioneer
Hi-Bred International Inc. field station at Mililani Agricultural
Park, Mililani. The experimental sites were located on the island
of Oahu in Hawaii and characterized by diversified agricultural systems,
including fruits, vegetables, ornamentals and parent
seed-corn farming. The experiments were planted from October
2010 to December 2011. On three occasions (fall 2010, summer
2011, and fall 2011) the Waimanalo site trials consisted of three
treatment plots: (1) intercropped (habitat management), (2)
released (inundative release of T. pretiosum), and (3) monoculture
control. The experiment conducted at the Mililani site (Spring
2011) consisted of only the intercropped and monoculture control
treatments.
