A total of 59 of 193 questionnaires were returned from care managers, representing approximately 30 per cent of the total number of care managers employed by the department. Of these, 56 per cent (33) of respondents stated they possessed a professional care qualification, while the remaining 44 per cent (26) did not. Sample qualitative data questions included "Can you give reasons why you think, generally, it is possible or not to undertake the roles and responsibilities of a care manager without a relevant professional care qualification?" and "Can you say what impact, if any, you think either having or not having a professional care qualification has for care managers here in X social services?
