1. Silver nanoclusters in organic scaffoldsThe formation and stabilization of silver nanoclusters in solution have been accomplished in various ways (Fig. 2). The proper choice of parameters for the reaction, including the temperature, the reducing method, the stabilizers and the initial ratio of silver : stabilizer, plays a crucial role for the successful synthesis of silver nanoclusters. Small variations in the synthetic procedure may lead to the formation of large non-fluorescent plasmonic silver nanoparticles. Despite the many reports of the last few years about the synthesis of silver nanoclusters, it remains difficult to design general rules for the synthesis of silver nanoclusters, as similar reagents and reaction conditions may lead to silver nanoparticles instead of nanoclusters.
