Acceptability of Macho Manager Behaviourin some cultures, the ideal picture of a manager is a masculine, aggressive hero with superhuman qualities, taking fast important decisions, admired by his followers and his women, crushing his adversaries. Trying to live up to such an ideal will lead to demonstrations of manliness in managers which fit the Spanish term machismo. In a masculine culture, such behaviour may be acceptable to many and functional, even if the manager in reality is not as much of a supermanas the ideal he tries to live up to. The same behaviour in a femninine culture would disqualify the manager as a ridiculous braggart who cannot be taken serious. In reverse, a managerial style developed in a feminine culture may be too modest to be efficacious in a masculine environment.
