Phacoemulsification with foldable intraocular lens is
the standard technique for cataract surgery in developed
countries. In developing countries, however, various
forms of manual small-incision cataract surgery (SICS)
are practised. In Nepal, SICS is a popular technique
among ophthalmologists as it can be performed faster
and yields a good surgical outcome (Hennig et al.,
2003).
