The Park is a short, 90-minute FPX (first person experience) horror-adventure game. You are a mother who has "lost" her child, and you enter into an eerie park to look for him. You start off by taking a ride on a few attractions - the Tunnel of Tales, where you hear the story of Hansel and Gratel, with one twist in the end. Then there's the Ferris Wheel, a spinning ride and the Roller Coaster, before culminating in the House of Horrors.
In between you read notes and letters, and there will be some strange occurrences and possibly jump scares.
I would say that the atmosphere of the game is great. I really liked how we can "ride" the rides. Nothing particularly out of the world, but well done regardless. There are some themes and monologues about motherhood as well.
There are no puzzles to solve really, nor are there any other major traditional gameplay elements. You can use the right mouse button to call out for your son, and also to find objects of interest, but I didn't think it was an essential mechanic at all.
Overall, I thought the game was pretty decent. Spot on atmosphere in particular. The graphics are fine as well.
The only big issue I had was that the ending was just too drawn out. You keep replaying that same segment like 5 or 6 times. Could have been done more briskly that. Aside from that, the optimization seems to be a tad lacking. Had to cap the game at 30fps to get a smooth framerate.
So yeah, I'd say I liked it more than Gone Home. The setting is interesting. The horror is pretty fair as well I'd say. It's not an essential game for sure, but if this kind of a genre floats your boat, then surely give The Park a go.
