Pattiya et al. studied the catalytic pyrolysis of cassava rhizome with ZSM-5, Al-MCM-41, Al-MSU-F and MI-575 in an analytical pyroprobe . The study showed that all the catalysts have the
potential to improve the viscosity and heating values of liquid biofuel,
but increases the acidity of the bio-oil produced. French and
Czernik also studied catalytic pyrolysis of biomass using commercial
and laboratory-synthesised zeolite catalyst.
Studies on catalytic pyrolysis of rice husk are however quite
limited. In an earlier work, William and Nugranad studied the catalytic
pyrolysis of rice husk with zeolite ZSM-5 . In a more
recent work, Jeon et al., studied catalytic pyrolysis of waste rice
husk over mesoporous materials while Zhong et al., investigated
the influence of red brick on fast pyrolysis of rice residue
(husk and straw) in a fluidised bed reactor .
