The opening into the
cervix protrudes back into the vagina. This forms a 360º blind-ended pocket completely
around the cervical opening. This pocket is referred to as the fornix. In most cows, the
cervix will be located on the floor of the pelvic cavity near the anterior end of the pelvic
bone. In older cows with large reproductive tracts, the cervix may rest slightly over the
pelvic bone and down into the abdominal cavity.
