PROCEDURE
- Explain how to correctly troubleshoot operational problems on MRU
- Explain the MRU system components and their operational functions.
1. Q: Why we need to remove Hg out of the gas stream?
A: The primary reason for removing mercury from natural gas is to protect downstream process equipment that made up of aluminum such as heat exchangers those are used in cryogenic hydrocarbon recovery natural gas plants and in natural gas liquefaction plants. Mercury has caused numerous aluminum exchanger failures. It amalgamates with aluminum, resulting in a mechanical failure and gas leakage. http://www.uop.com/objects/87MercuryRemoval.pdf
2. Q: Why Chevron Thailand needs to remove Hg from sales gas?
A: Control sales quality as the Sales gas contract with PTT.
3. Q: How Hg in natural gas process is removed?
A: By using adsorption catalyst to adsorb Hg from the gas stream, when the rich Hg process gas flows through the catalyst there are chemical reaction and the Hg is adsorbed to the molecules of the catalyst then the outgoing gas will be lean of Hg.
4. Q: What is the main component of MRU system?
A: There are 3 main components of MRU system, there are
1. Inlet filter coalescer
2. Mercury Adsorber
3. Dust filter
