Thailand will host a regional tennis event to make up for the absence of tennis at the Myanmar SEA Games in December.
Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand (LTAT) president Suwat Liptapanlop said the Asian Tennis Federation had given the go-ahead for a tournament for Southeast Asian countries, after the SEA Games host insisted it did not have the facilities to stage a tennis event.
"We have had positive responses from SEA Games member countries about this tournament. We will organise the competition to be identical to the normal [SEA] Games event," said the Thai tennis chief.
A total of seven gold medals - men's singles, doubles, teams, and women's singles, doubles, team, and mixed doubles - will be up for grabs at the tournament, which will be held shortly before the December 11-22 SEA Games.
