One of the most exciting things about the LFW exhibition at Somerset House is the opportunity to discover new labels, and actually meet the people behind the labels in many cases. One such fine opportunity was meeting Jane Bowler, the brilliant RCA graduate who, in the space of 2 1/2 short years has established her label, clarified her handwriting as well as mastered some innovative textiles and techniques. She has had pieces of her collection shot by the likes of Rankin and Nick Knight, and is slowly but surely coming into the eye-line of the fashion word at large.I was struck by her use of leather and plastics in a really delicate yet striking way. The silhouettes are simplistic, allowing the surface pattern and texture, as well as the construction techniques to speak for themselves. The proportions and colour balance looks fresh and faultless. Very exciting work.Bowler’s collection is sold through some innovative, cutting edge boutiques internationally, but is yet to find a home in her adopted city of London. I do hope that is resolved by the end of this fashion week.
