Cerumen and propolis are the natural products that used as a structure of the bee’s hive. There are a variety of biological activities such as anti-oxidation anti-bacterial activity and anti-cancer.The objective of this research was to determine and compare the anti-inflammatory activity of cerumen from stingless bee (Tetragonula laeviceps) and propolis from stingless bee and honey bee (Apis mellifera). Cerumen and propolis was extracted with 80% ethanol. The anti-inflammatory activity was determined by measuring an inhibitory effect on nitric oxide and TNF-α release in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages using Griess reagent and ELISA kits, respectively. The results show that the propolis of stingless bee showed the highest inhibitory activities, followed by the cerumen of stingless bee and propolis of honey bee, respectively. The nitric oxide inhibitory activities with IC50 value of 13.68, 18.00 and 37.58 µg/ml, respectively. The secretion of TNF-α with IC value of greater than 80 µg/ml of all types. The study show that the cerumen and the propolis is good sources of natural anti-inflammatory agents and can be used as data in the development of medicine.
