Slovenia has 43% Karstic territory, which merits special attention with regard to prevention of underground pollution with industrial and municipal waste waters. Polluted waters, which flow into the underground, run out of control, while its self-purification capability is to a great extent diminished. Thus the underground water, which is the main source of future potable water, is endangered and ~Lherefore needs protection. The variety of underground cave habitats, which are numerous in this region (~kocjanske underground cave--under UNESCO protection), must also be preserved
