Aim of the 2006 coup:
• To adjust the balance of political power [A problem in
Thaksin’s regime]
• Reducing the role of elected politicians [who centered
more on their self-interest than the public one]
But: the government formed under the lead of Gen.
Surayud was incapable of governing the complex and
demanding Thai society that Thailand has now become.
Thaksin, though under refuge abroad , still kept his
influence on his supporters, which later formed into the
Red Shirts, and fought against the Yellow shirt.
