Web email blocking to begin August 22
As explained in the recent 2Q 2015 Cyber Security Advisory, the use of Company computers to access web-based email poses a significant threat to ExxonMobil’s computing network. To protect against this significant and growing cyber security threat, beginning on August 22, 2015, it will no longer be permissible to access web email sites from Company computers (this includes GME laptops and desktops, Surface Pro tablets, and terminal servers).
As an alternative, you can access web email from your company-owned iOS device, or from a personal laptop or mobile device. For internet connectivity, you can use external cellular or Wi-Fi services, including the Wireless Internet Service, and the GuestNet (GIAS) service, where applicable.
While most web email sites will be automatically blocked, it is not possible to block all web email sites available on the Internet. As specified in the updated Key IT User Responsibilities, unless you have obtained a web email exception, accessing email through a web email site is not an authorized use of a Company computer, even if the site has not been blocked by technical means.
We will continue to do everything possible to protect the Company’s valuable information, but we need you to do your part as well. Stay alert to possible phishing attacks, and above all, think before you click!
