able 2).The green ceramic tiles were prepared as follows. The pigment powders were added to the ceramic base body and homogenized with minimum amounts of moisture. The mix- tures were then pressed into cylinders with a diameter of ∅20 mm under the compressive strength of 25 MPa or 30 MPa. The green ceramic tile samples were dried at 110 1C for 4 h and sintered in a muffle furnace at typical temperatures, i.e. 1100, 1150, 1175 and 1200 1C, for various sintering times of 15, 30, 60 and 120 min. The effects of addition ratios of mineralizer (1% and 2% CaF2) on the color of the ceramic tiles were also considered.L, a, b perpendicular axes, developed by the International Commission on Illumination, are usually used to represent the color space. Of these axes, the L axis represents lightness, þa and Àa represents red and green respectively, while b value is related to the axis from yellow (þb) to blue (Àb). The colorimetric coordinates (L, a, b) of the fired ceramic tiles were triply examined. The compressive strength of the sintered ceramic tiles was also evaluated.2.3.
