OOCL & Community
OOCL recognizes that the communities in which we live and work contribute to our success; therefore, we embrace Community Responsibility as one of our core values. We strive to maintain high safety standards, demonstrate our concern for the environment as well as adhere to ethically sound code of conduct.
We also focus on education for youth. The late Mr C Y Tung, founder of our company, always had a vision of reviving the greatness of Chinese Maritime with ships owned, manned, and operated on world routes entirely by Chinese. He was committed to education for others: "I have learned that there is a link between ships and education. They can be used for carrying ideas as well as cargo”.
OOCL and the Tung Foundation established the Tung OOCL Scholarship in 1995 to support the education for youth. Each year, the Scholarship supports students in six universities in China and the children of our employees globally. The Tung Foundation has also been a generous supporter of the Zhoushan Navigation School in China for many years, and is an active participant in Partnerships in Education, a forum that promotes co-operation between business and education in the USA.
Assistance in the form of free transportation is regularly given to a number of charitable projects. OOCL employees around the world help their local communities through various voluntary services. OOCL and its employees also make charitable donations to beneficiaries including cancer, diabetes and leukemia funds in Hong Kong, Australia, Europe and the USA; children’s homes in Hong Kong and France; food banks in the USA and countless others.
OOCL also supports the arts and culture industry through regularly providing transportation and logistics solutions to large international theater productions and sailing competitions.
