Although the San Antonio Light's closure was anticipated after the Oct. 6 bombshell announcement that Hearst was buying the rival Express-News, the Light's actual shutdown last month left many Express-News employees wondering about their futures.Former Light employees who gave up their severance package from Hearst and were hired by the Express-News retained their seniority based on when they were hired by Hearst, [W. Lawrence Walker Jr.] said. They are entitled to vacation and other benefits of Express-News employees, he said.Former Light workers who took Hearst's severance package and joined the Express-News are considered new employees and must go through the regular process to attain vacation time and other benefits. Those employees, however, do have six months of health insurance from Hearst, Walker said.
