The molecular magnet in the washer halves will orient themselves so that, near the poles of the permanent magnet, opposite poles will predominate at X,mostly S-poles. The opposite poles of the molecular magnets have to point in the opposite direction from X. Hence,at Y and W,N-poles will predominate. The reverse happens in the other half of the washer, which is nearer to the S-pole. Therefore,Z will be an S-pole.
