Data collection
The data were collected using in-depth interviews. This approach best elicited the women’s thoughts and feelings, as well as allowing for detailed descriptions of their experiences on sexual problems. The interviews were conducted by the primary researcher using an open-ended interview. The interview was designed to give the participant the opportunity to describe her experiences without interruption. Each interview was tape-recorded with permission and lasted approximately 100 min. The researcher avoided personal bias by using a bracketing technique during the interview process. In this technique, the researcher sets aside personal beliefs and knowledge, not making judgments about what is observed or heard, and remains open to the data as they are revealed.
