It’s no secret that last Friday marked a low point for Starbucks, but its 41 years of perseverance makes it a pretty solid company in the grand scheme of coffee vendors. The coffee giant opened its first store in Seattle’s Pike’s Place Market in 1971, but stores didn’t start multiplying in significant numbers until the late 1990s. A pivotal point for the company, Howard Shultz took Starbucks public in 1992. From 1990 to 2000, the franchise went from having 84 locations to 3,501. It was an impressive decade, but nothing exceptional compared to the additional 13,500 stores that have opened since the 2000.
