COMMENT: The initial title ''representative of the International Phuthai Network'' was changed to ''writer ...'' as several Phuthais objected about this self-appointed title, arguing that there is no such thing as ''International Phuthai ...'' despite festivals being held under this name. Neither is there an organization or movement counting more than a handful of people. All scholars agree in that we only find Phuthai in Thailand and Laos. The speaker (and now travel-agent as well - to Vietnam and China), Suthep Chaiyakhan, advocates for the existence of Phuthai in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and China (even Japan has been proposed), based on his unique re-definition of Phuthai as all those groups, who prefix /phu, pu/ (meaning 'people') to Tai ... (!). Many Phuthais are concerned that such biased views will influence and confuse ethnic self-identity among the new generations of Phuthai.Creating an artificial ''we'' based on the above misconception also creates a ''you'' - and thereby an unneeded ''in-out'' attitude. The short comment to this phu/pu/bu-nonsence is: ''BUU''.
