Inclined Plane. The inclined plane is a basic building block of introductory physics. Perhaps present-day students consider problems involving it dull andboring because they do not have the opportunity to do experiments with it. This inclined plane at Amherst College is by Ducretet of Paris and was almostcertainly bought about 1875 as a replacement for the apparatus lost in the destruction by fire of the original Walker Hall on the Amherst College campus. Itscost was about $20 in 1875 currency. The block is not original; when new, the body on the inclined plane was a roller. ~Photograph and notes by Thomas B.Greenslade, Jr., Kenyon College!
