Check if you need to pay towards your healthcare in the UK
As part of your visa application you may need to pay a healthcare charge (called the ‘immigration health surcharge’) to the health services in the UK.
You don’t need to continue if you’re applying for a visitor visa, or indefinite leave to remain (ILR).
Before you start
You need to register to use this service
You must answer some questions which will work out if you need to pay and how much
If you need to pay you’ll be taken to a payment screen
You'll need:
an email address
your passport or travel document
your payment card (if payment is required)
What happens next
After payment or if you don’t need to pay (if you’re ‘exempt’), you’ll get an IHS reference number for your visa application.
You may be exempt from paying this healthcare charge, but you still need an IHS reference number.
