Hello all,
I'm having a problem and hoping someone can shed some light on the matter.
I have Visual Studio 2008 Professional downloaded from the Microsoft Dreamspark website (free for students). For some reason, SQL Server 2005 Express Edition didn't install as part of the Visual Studio 2008 Professional installation and now I need it.
First I tried going to 'Add and Remove Programs' > 'Change Remove' and installing SQL Server 2005 that way but that didn't work giving the following error at the end of the installation process;
"Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup was unable to install on your computer
Tell Microsoft about your problem"
I had a look through the log files but didn't really know what I was looking for. Hoping that it would get rid of any chance for problems during installation I uninstalled every Visual Studio 2008 component;
Visual Studio 2008
Visual Studio Web Authoring Component
.net Framework 2.0 sp2
.net Framwork 3.5
Microsoft Document Explorer
All the 'SQL Server Compact' files
All the 'Visual Studio SDKs'
Microsoft SQL Server Native Client
Microsoft SQL Server Setup Support Files
Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer
I reinstalled Visual Studio 2008 with every component checked, everything seemed to install, every component had a green tick next to it and then right at the end it threw the same error;
"Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup was unable to install on your computer
Tell Microsoft about your problem"
Can anyone help with this, I'm completely lost and in desparate need for the SQL Server to work.
Thanks in advance,
Lewis
