So, what is this project all about? n our school the students may choose two courses per semester from a variety of urses. One option is a course for writing books in Hebrew, so two years ago decided to adopt the idea for English. it would have to be on a much smaller scale, since project work was already integrated into the English lessons and I couldn't afford to devote more than one bi-weekly lesson to it. The students being well read in Hebrew and having been exposed to books, stories and texts in English, as well as having been introduced to different terms and literacy experiences at a very early stage, made this adventure possible. As soon as the students decide what their yearly project is about and how they want to write it, I introduce a work plan including dates, manner of work, etc. Most of the kids choose to write a short research project or build a computer presentation and not many of them choose to write books and even some of those that do, drop out after a while having realized that it's not going to be so easy. Usually, only 2-4 students in each class end up writing books, which are then bound in the school library by the students themselves with the help of the handicrafts teacher. Three copies are made: one for the student, one for me and one goes to the school library.
