Thus, acetic acid from BV
probably does not affect pH value in stomach
(Wang et al., 2012). It is inferred that the effect of
BV and acidifier on pH value in stomach attributes
to the acids in acidifier. Acidifier has a function to
reduce the acid binding capacity of feed and further
decrease the pH value in the intestines. A lower pH value in stomach by adding 0.25% acidifier may
prevent the acid-intolerant organisms from growing,
as the stomach acts as a barrier against colonization
of acid-intolerant pathogens in the gastrointestinal
tract. This may be modulated by feeding strategies
that are expected to influence gastric function
(Manzanilla et al., 2004).
