The victim of a criminal attack gave information which led to the conviction of her attacker. The information was given by the victim in order to ease her conscience as she believed she was going to die. She subsequently attempted to accept an offer of a reward that had previously been made for information leading to the discovery of a particular murderer (the same person that attacked her). The court held that even though she had not been influenced by the offer to give the information, she was nonetheless entitled to the reward. The handbill upon which the offer had been made had been displayed all over the town in which she lived, so she must have known about it. Her motives for accepting the offer were irrelevant
